Pietersite cab ~
Here is an atypical but extra fancy cabochon of premium pietersite, from Africa. I say atypical because it has a remarkably woodgrain-like pattern in golden orange, something I've rarely seen in any pietersite. Rather than the usual patches of chatoyance, this one has a strong blue chatoyant flash that rolls over nearly the entire stone, all at once. Please see the second and third photos, identically posed; only the lights were moved, and look at the difference! The dark blue is the actual base color, but when the light hits it, it glows a beautiful silky light blue. It's very special, to say the least, with much more charm and appeal than these one-dimensional photos are able to show. The stone has a high rounded dome, a sleek designer shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
