Description
~ Damsonite? cab~

Offered here is a designer cabochon of purple chalcedony, from Arizona, sold to me as Burro Creek jasper, which it certainly isn't. I showed it to several lapidaries of my acquaintance and they unanimously identified it as damsonite, also from Arizona. Since it's very translucent, that makes a good deal more sense, but I make no guarantees about the ID; all I know is, it's beautiful! The backlit photo illustrates this very well. Along with the nice purple and lavender colors, there are streaks and stringers of cream with a touch of pastel yellow. It has a very high rounded dome, a gracefully curvy shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.

Size: 43x26mm
Weight: approximately 44 carats
