Gem silica cab ~
Offered here is a designer cabochon of chrysocolla, from Peru. This arresting material is truly outstanding, drawing the eye. There's lime, avocado, emerald, and even sky blue hues, with a couple of plume-like 'flowers' in deepest turquoise. The dealer I buy this from calls it opal, but even though it does have a delightful degree of translucence, I think this highly silicated material is far too tough and hard to be true opal. The stone has a very high rounded dome, a graceful shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
