Chrysocolla malachite cab ~
Here is a cabochon of extra fancy chrysocolla and malachite, from the African Congo. This collectibly rare material is truly striking, with a show of intricate black plumes that are seldom seen. Perhaps they should rightly be called dendrites, but whatever the name, they're spectacular! There are 'islands' of green malachite in the bright cerulean blue chrysocolla, some of which show a bit of chatoyance. Simply breathtaking! Please note that the surface is slightly wavy, due to the varying hardnesses of the different minerals, but I was still able to achieve a decent polish. This yummy keeper cab has a nicely rounded dome, a sweet designer 'paisley' shape, with a glossy finish both front and back.
