Turritella agate cab ~
Offered here is a fasinating cabochon of turritella agate, from Wyoming. This ancient fossilized material is chock full of turritella shells, from which it takes its name. The white shells are quite apparent in this nicely composed example, going every which way, but the main one has two cells filled with sparkling crystalline quartz. And the network of shells stand out wonderfully against the black and brown agate background. Turritella agate was never a favorite of mine until recently, when a rockhound friend shared some of this great old solid stuff with me. It's a joy to work with, fine enough to take an excellent glassy shine. I'm sure you'll like it too, give it a try! The cab has a very high rounded dome, a designer 'leaf' shape, and it's polished both front and back.
