Cacoxenite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of quartz with inclusions of golden cacoxenite, a rarity. Technically, the inclusions are the mineral goethite, and I can truthfully tell you that those little spikes are the most amazingly bright golden color I've ever seen in rock! Their appearance is like spun gold, and as you can see, they really do look like 'thorns', some of which are arranged in rows. The backlit photo reveals that the quartz has a citrine yellow tinge, and some areas that are ever so slightly amethystine. There are a few of the typical 'fairy frost' inclusions present, but nothing too distracting in a stone of this size. The cab has a well rounded dome of just under 6mm, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
