Nipomo marcasite agate cab ~
Offered here is a large designer cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. The area where this great old material was once collected is no longer accessible, so it has become quite hard to come by these days, particularly in this far-above-average calibre. Nipomo marcasite is definitely one of my favorites, and this one's got extra appeal; it turned out so wonderfully, I was sorely tempted to keep it myself... -smile- It features atypical bluish agate, rather than the usual yellow, filled with shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of bright marcasite. Flowery plumes, actually, with plenty of gleam! There are several pools of agate, framed in subtle fortification bandings too. The cab has a very high rounded dome, a gracefully crisp shape, and a glistening polish both front and back.
