Binghamite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare binghamite, from Minnesota's Cuyuna Range. Closely related kin to tigereye and silkstone, binghamite typically exhibits a chatoyance all its own. This one has silky streaks and patches of golden yellow with red, and the blackish areas are actually darkly shiny metallic hematite that don't show up well in photos. I did manage to catch just a hint of the metallics in the last pic. It has a well rounded dome of 7+mm, and an excellent polish both front and back.
