Woodward Ranch plume agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Woodward Ranch plume agate, from Texas. Last I heard, the ranch was sold in March 2014 and is currently closed to collecting, permanently. Whether or not that remains true, the official domain is, indeed, up for sale; I sure wish I'd have visited the ranch to find some agates during the many decades it was open. -sigh- This distinctive material is a classic favorite, prized for its wonderful translucence and colorful figure. (I LOVE red plumes, but this particular variety is my personal favorite, absolutely, in all the world! No other even comes close, IMHO.) Sure cuts a fascinating cab, I must say. This example has several bunches of ornate plumes in blood red, and black with red tips, ghostly fortifications surrounding some of them. The background is highly translucent, as illustrated by the backlit photo. The stone has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a bold designer shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
