Fossil coral cab ~
Offered here is a lovely cabochon of fossilized coral, from Indonesia. This fascinating agate material is composed of the highly silicated remains of colonial sea coral, many millions of years old! It has an unmistakeable one-of-a-kind pattern of flower-like starbursts, hence it is sometimes called "flowers of the sea". Sadly, the finds are so few and far between that they hardly bother to look for it any more. Anyway, this example has gorgeous golden ochre coloration, with a surprising degree of gemmy translucence, and an exceptionally well defined pattern. This cab has a nicely rounded dome of 5+mm, a long designer 'flame' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
