Bumble Bee jasper cab ~
Offered here is a striking trio of matching cabochons of bumble bee stone, from Indonesia. This material is not actually a jasper, and I can't say if it's onyx or what, but I do know one thing for certain: It cuts FANTASTIC cabs! These examples have gorgeous scalloped banding in brilliant yellow to yellow-orange alternating with black, plus white and gray, which adds an appealing contrast. Most areas of these stones are translucent. I read on the importer's website that this material is harvested near the steaming calderas of Mount Papandayan, an active volcano, where locals collect native sulfur! So that seems to explain the vivid coloration. I think this new bumble bee 'jasper' has tremendous designer potential, and these stones will look fabulous in even the simplest of settings. The largest cab has a high rounded dome of 6mm, while the smaller pair are 5mm in thickness. Each of the three has a versatile designer 'bullet' shape, and a slick glossy polish both front and back.
