Imperial jasper cab ~
Offered here is an extraordinary cabochon of imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible 'ojitos' material is simply wonderful stuff, another member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. (Ojitos means little eyes in Spanish.) This example features an interesting orbicular pattern, as well as a secondary "curtain" pattern of streaks running diagonally across the stone. The colors are very attractive nuanced shades of mauve, with both roe and olive shadings, and some areas are edged in creamy old ivory. The backside is interesting too, so an open-backed setting would work nicely. The cab has a rounded dome of 6.5mm, a crisp designer shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
