Calandria agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Calandria agate, which hails from Mexico. I'm told this relatively new material comes from the same area where the long famous casas grandes and parcelas agates are dug, and think it's every bit as wonderful. This example was cut from the heart of a nodule, and features bands of delicate pastel purple and lilac shades. There are also attractive snow white clouds adding definition and contrast, as well as some interesting turtleback figure in lavender. This was my first experience with this agate variety, and I must say, I like it a lot, and think my photos fall somewhat short capturing its true beauty. Prettier in hand, with no flaws that I can find. The stone has a high rounded dome of 7mm, a plump designer 'crescent' shape, and a great glassy polish both front and back.
