Description
~ Horse Canyon agate cabs~

Offered here is a fascinating trio of cabochons cut from rare Horse Canyon agate, dug long ago near Tehachapi, California. This highly sought after moss agate is one of my long time favorites, becoming tougher to get by the day. The area where it hails from is now private and closed, meaning it can no longer be collected. These particular stones are of the dark variety, seldom seen these days; when I reach the end of what few nodules I have left, it will probably prove impossible to replenish. These stones have a mysterious look to them, featuring a background agate the color of smoky root beer, and within that are very ornate moss-like stringers in shades of deep olive greens and tans with black. Some neat white water-level lines too. Please click to enlarge the pics to enjoy the delightful details! The big stone has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, while the smaller pair are 4mm in thickness. Each one has a sleek designer 'flame' shape, and a fine glassy polish both front and back.

Size: 50x20mm, pair 21x12mm
Weight: approximately 45 carats total
