Royal imperial jasper cab ~
Offered here is an outstanding cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible 'ojitos' material is simply amazing stuff, another member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. (Ojitos means little eyes in Spanish.) It features a fabulous orbicular pattern with concentric bands reminiscent of the woodgrain seen around a knot in wood. The pattern fits the shape of the stone quite well, and the backside is just as beautiful. There's a nice touch of gemmy translucence in some areas, and the polish is complete and unblemished by any flaws that I can find. The stone has a high rounded dome of 5mm, a plump but graceful 'flame' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
