Polka dot agate cab ~
Offered here is a unique cabochon of Priday polka dot agate, which hails from Oregon. This old stock material is a pleasure to work with, and never fails to cut extraordinary stones. This example has an intricate pattern composed of clusters of black dots on one side, and abstract shapes in rusty red and tan on the other. The figures stand out in sharp contrast against a background of bluish white. In hand, you'll notice that the seemingly black areas and the many dots are sub-metallic, exhibiting a silvery sheen much like gun metal does, which I attempted to illustrate in the last photo, aided by reflected light. The stone is cut in a versatile designer shape with a nicely rounded dome of 5.5mm, and a smooth glassy polish both front and back.
