Description
~ East Java plume agate cab ~

Offered here is a cabochon of East Java plume agate, a fairly recent find. Well, they call it plume agate, although this particular pattern certainly looks more like tubes to me. Check out the last photo, of the backside, showing the billowing clouds within the stone. Those who have seen this cab's pattern remarked that it resembles some large-celled dinosaur bone in some respects, and I have to agree. A multitude of red, blue and black spots in this cab have thin outlines of red, then orange, then finally, a lacy fringe of white. The background also has areas of olive green, and around the edges of the stone, one can see that the main body is a smoky pastel of palest blue. It's an intriguing and rare material that will definitely make interesting jewelry, or a fine addition to your collection. I do need to mention that the greenish spots of matrix on the backside did not shine up well, though I doubt you'll find that detracting on such a rarity as this stone certainly is. It has a high rounded dome of 7mm, and a designer 'flame' shape that's polished both front and back.

Size: 49x20mm
