Description
~ Cacoxenite in amethyst cab ~

Offered here is a cabochon of amethyst with inclusions of golden cacoxenite, a rarity cut from grand old Brazilian material. Technically, the inclusions are the mineral goethite, and I can truthfully tell you that those little spikes are the most amazingly bright golden color I've ever seen in rock! Their appearance is like spun gold, and as you can see, they look a lot like 'thorns', which are arranged mostly in offset rows. The backlit photo reveals that the translucent purple quartz has some attractive zoning. There are several areas of the typical 'fairy frost' inclusions present, but it's a terrific stone regardless of its imperfections. The cab has a cute little teardrop shape with a well rounded dome of 7mm, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.

Size: 31x21mm
Weight: approximately 34 carats
