Bumble bee jasper cab ~
Offered here is a striking cabochon of bumble bee stone, recently imported from Indonesia. This example has bands and ghostly tubes in brilliant yellow-orange and blacks, with white and gray, which makes for an appealing contrast. Much of the stone is surprisingly translucent, though I didn't snap a backlit photo... I read on the importer's website that this material is harvested near the steaming calderas of Mount Papandayan, an active volcano, where locals collect native sulfur! So that seems to explain the vivid yellow and orange colors. Whatever it turns out to be, bumble bee 'jasper' certainly makes fantastic, eye catching stones with tremendous designer potential! This one has a high rounded dome of 6mm, a gracefully arched designer shape, and a slick glossy polish both front and back.
