Blue opal cab ~
Offered here is a LARGE and distinguished cabochon of blue opal, from Peru. Prized for its gemmy blue coloration, this genuine Andean opal is now quite scarce in the marketplace, and what little rough might be found commands a very VERY steep price. Luckily, I still have some put away from "the old days" or I couldn't afford to offer any cabs. This impressive example has gorgeous sky blues and a watermark type of dendritic inclusion that wends through the stone, adding to the visual interest. It actually reminds me of fine gem silica, and cut more like that material than a lot of the opal I've cabbed. The fabulous color and size will make an heirloom quality item of wearable art, no doubt, or a fine addition to any collection. The stone has a generously high rounded dome of 7mm, a versatile designer drop shape, and a totally glassy polish both front and back.
