Nipomo marcasite agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. I've heard the area where this great old material was once collected now has condos built on it, so it's all over for collecting, folks. This fine example is composed of translucent yellow, clear and pale bluish agate threading between shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of bright marcasite. Plumes, actually, in the smaller pattern that I prefer, with oodles of gleam! Nipomo marcasite is an extremely challenging material to photograph because it's so highly reflective, but you get the idea. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a curvy designer 'crescent' shape, and despite one tiny natural void, it has a gleaming mirror-bright polish both front and back.
