Pigeon blood agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of pigeon blood agate, also known as cornelian, from Utah. This material is so named for its resemblance to splashes or droplets of pigeon's blood. This example has a nice showing of the classic spots and flecks of crimson red, along with nebulous tissue-like folds composed of super tiny dots. It also has a great degree of translucence, as illustrated by the backlit photo. The cab is cut with a very high rounded dome of 8mm, polished to a glassy brilliance both front and back.
