Description
~ Royal eye cabenite jasper cab ~

Offered here is a cabochon of royal eyes jasper, also called cabenite. It was found years ago around McDermitt, on the Nevada/Oregon border, in thunderegg form. The fellow who mined them was offering some small (& rather expensive) slabettes recently at the Madras gem show for the very first time. This example is the fourth one I've cut, and I think it's quite attractive, with several orbs within a larger orb shape in a spring green pool. Reminds me a little of Bruneau jasper, and has varied patterns and colors similar to those found in some Morrisonite and Willow Creek jaspers. Please note that the odd line at the top corner is a thin vein of translucent chalcedony, not a flaw. It is rumored that this unusual jasper will be featured in an upcoming issue of Rock & Gem magazine, and if so, we can all read more about it then. Meanwhile here's another nice cab for your jewelry designing and/or collecting pleasure! The stone has a low rounded dome of 4.5mm, and a designer shape that's highly polished front and back.

Size: 40x25mm
Weight: approximately 48 carats
