Offered here is a gorgeous designer cabochon of fiery created opal. This opal is laboratory grown. The process is an expensive and time consuming one that can take up to two years to complete, and remains a closely guarded secret. The opal is actually grown from natural opal-bearing earths, or so I hear. Totally AWESOME stuff, and pure pleasure to work with. The best part is, it's affordable, unlike a lot of mined opal nowadays. This example is the black-based variety, with a BRILLIANT electric rainbow of fire that stands out all the more. There's not a dead spot anywhere, and it exhibits the same sort of fascinating color shift seen in opal dug from the ground, in vibrant flashes. As outrageous as it looks in these illustrations, it's even more breathtaking in person!
