charoite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of charoite, cut from Russian rough purchased by my cousin directly from the importer. This rare purple gem material is found only at a single source, along the Charo River, located in a very remote area of East Central Siberia. This cab features a crushed velvet sort of pattern in deep purple, lavender and gold, with areas of excellent pearly chatoyance. A close look reveals a few tiny flecks of shiny silver metal in the stone, oddly enough. In case it matters, I should mention the presence of a fine hairline on the backside; the cab is quite sound nonetheless. It has a well rounded dome of 7mm, a versatile designer shape, and a super glossy polish both front and back.
