Description
~ Horn Coral cab ~

Offered here is a magnificent cabochon of fossilized horn coral, from Utah. I've heard the old collecting site is closed, so that explains why the good stuff has become so spendy and hard to get. Horn corals are actually ancient sea life, and you can clearly see the organic nature of this once-living coral retained in the agate. It has the classic 'radiating spoke' figure, in translucent shades of reddish orange, coral pink, and white. A close look reveals it also has some amazing squared bullseye patterns, as well as swirled veils of agate beneath the surface. The stone has a low rounded dome of 5mm, a plump teardrop shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.

Size: 35x30mm
Weight: approximately 50 carats
