Carey Moss agate cab ~
Offered here is a large cabochon of Carey moss agate, from Idaho. This example features a network of pastel green tendrils suspended in a translucent background of black, blue and root beer brown agate. The mossy tubes have an interesting fuzzy texture, with a few ghostly fortifications between them. Backlighting reveals the gemmy nature of the stone. One thing I've noticed about agates of this variety is that the moss frequently has an annoying tendency to undercut; happily, it is absent in this well-silicated stone. It has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, and a graceful designer 'flame' shape with an excellent polish both front and back.
