Description
~ Pinolith cab ~

Offered here is a cabochon of pinolith, from a small manganese quarry in Austria's Turen Mountains. I really like the absract flower-petal patterns in this unusual material, outlined in black. I'm told pinolith is quite rare, and have seen a few small slabettes sell for ridiculously high prices. Its hardness is rather on the softer side, very much like crinoid marble, though I don't imagine that'll pose any problem in most jewelry. The stone has a rounded dome of 5mm, and an elegant designer shape, nicely polished both front and back.

Size: 53x24 mm
Weight: approximately 40 carats
