Description
~ Pinolith cab ~

Offered here is a cabochon of pinolith, from a small manganese quarry in Austria's Turen Mountains. I really like the absract flower-petal patterns in this unusual material. I'm told it is quite rare, and have seen a few small slabettes sell for ridiculously high prices. Its hardness is rather on the softer side, very much like crinoid marble, though I don't imagine that'll pose any problem in most jewelry. The stone has a generously high rounded dome of nearly 7mm, a bold designer 'spear' shape, and it is nicely polished both front and back.

Size: 41x27mm
Weight: approximately 58 carats
