Fingerprint jasper cab ~
Offered here is a striking cabochon of fingerprint jasper, recently imported from Indonesia. The seller says this interesting material is rare, and that the small deposit may already be depleted, so there may never be any more. Too bad, if so, because I liked it the first time I saw it. This example has an unusual pattern that actually does resemble the whorls of a fingerprint, in dark red veining shadowed by yellow ochre. There are some odd strokes here and there in gun metal gray that have a sub-metallic luster, as well as one small yellow bullseye. The cab has a high rounded dome of 7mm and a bold designer shape, polished both front and back.
