Description
~ Hell's Canyon petrified wood cab ~

Offered here is a fascinating cabochon of petrified wood, an unsual and rare form from Hell's Canyon near the Idaho/Oregon border. (You can read more about this material on my blog.) The species is said to be sequoia, showing fascinating wavy annual growth lines in a herringbone pattern. This example has woodgrain lines, as well as rich coloration in sandalwood shades. It sports an amazing pattern of pools and tiny holes that penetrate clear through to the backside, nearly all of which are lined with translucent quartz, milky agate, or (common) opal. The largest pools are interconnected and filled with beautiful blue agate. They look like tiny thundereggs, complete with intricate fortifications. Be sure to click to enlarge the photos to see the details. I'm no expert on pet wood, but this material seems opalized to some degree, and it certainly is GORGEOUS! Much moreso than these photos could ever illustrate. This cab has a rounded dome of 6mm, a versatile designer 'flame' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.

Size: 49x20mm
