Description
~ Hells Canyon petrified wood cab ~

Offered here is a unique cabochon of petrified wood, an unsual and rare form from Hell's Canyon near the Idaho/Oregon border. (Read more about it on my my blog.) It is said to be sequoia, showing fascinating wavy annual growth lines, and so much more. This example has varying shades of rich, creamy beechnut to sandalwood coloration and a wild array of pools, no two alike. The ornate pools are filled with white agate or common opal that's highly translucent, as illustrated by the backlit photo, but only the large white one has a void penetrating the stone clear through. Most have fancy fortifications, just like tiny embedded thundereggs, which they are! I'm no expert on pet wood, but this material seems opalized to some degree, and it certainly is GORGEOUS! This cab has a nicely rounded dome of 6mm, an elegant designer shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.

Size: 42x30mm
Weight: approximately 33 carats
