Carey moss agate cab ~
Offered here is a captivating cabochon of Carey moss agate, from Idaho. This example has extra fancy tubes rather than moss, and they are very well defined. The green-cored tendrils are encased in jet black, suspended in bluish agate. The green parts have an interesting segmented nature, with an almost organic look, and a few ghostly fortifications and water level lines between them. One tiny druzy pocket too. Backlighting reveals the gemmy nature of the stone. One thing I've noticed about agates of this variety is that the moss frequently has an annoying tendency to undercut; happily, it is absent in this well-silicated stone. It has a nicely rounded dome of 7mm, and a crisp designer 'spear' shape with an excellent polish both front and back.
