Description
~ Tahoma jasper cab ~

Offered here is a splendid cabochon of top quality Tahoma jasper, from the slopes of Mt. Rainier in Washington state. The local American Indian name for that same mountain is Tahoma, which translates roughly to 'next to heaven', and it is considered to be a sacred place. So someone chose a great name for this terrific and very rare material! This unique cab is a marvelous example, with intriguing squiggles of agate, feathery clouds, gemmy yellow chiffon pools and even subtle fortifications. The colors are typical of the best the material has to offer, with several shades of light and dark slate blue, burnt yellow, cream and charcoal. Rusty brown matrix forming plume-like figures at two sides, an open void adding to the character, and a sparkly crystalline area at the wide end. Great contrast here, and because it's a mixture of agate and jasper, there's more than a little translucence present too. This stone has next to none of the all too typical fractures, and whatever few tiny lines that may be present are quite well healed. The stone has a low rounded dome of 5mm, and an ovoid shape, brilliantly polished both front and back.

Size: 42x23mm
Weight: approximately 47 carats
