Description
~ Hells Canyon petrified wood cab ~

Offered here is an collector's cabochon of petrified wood, an unsual and rare form from Hell's Canyon near the Idaho/Oregon border. The species is said to be sequoia, showing fascinating wavy annual growth lines in a herringbone pattern. This example has an almost 3 dimensional grain pattern, riddled with ornately shaped agate pools & holes, each of which is lined with translucent quartz, milky agate, or (common) opal. They resemble tiny embedded thundereggs, each one with its own unique shape, many of which include fortifications. Only a few of the larger ones penetrate clear through to the backside. It is positively STUNNING backlit! I'm no expert on pet wood, but this material seems opalized to some degree, and it certainly is GORGEOUS! This cab has a low rounded dome of 4mm, a designer 'paisley' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.

Size: 45x23mm
Weight: approximately 27 carats
