Mohave turquoise ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Mohave purple turquoise. My cousin purchased a block of this vividly colored material from the nice folks who mine Kingman turquoise in Arizona. It is composed of small chunks of natural blue turquoise, to which they added red dye and a brassy-bronze metallic. From there, I'm told the proprietary process is very much the same as with other stabilized turquoise, using a combination of heat and compression, and this is the end result. Beautifully rich coloration, with plenty of contrasting golden metallic webbing through and through, as well as a few shiny flecks of silvery metallic pyrite. Even though this purple turquoise isn't natural, either in color or form, I find it to be absolutely gorgeous. It cut like a dream, took a fantastic polish, and is totally solid. And those VIVID colors certainly command attention! The cab has a rounded dome of 7.5mm, and an elongated drop shape, smoothly polished front and back.
