Imperial cab ~
Offered here is an intriguing cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible 'ojitos' material is simply wonderful stuff, another member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. (Ojitos means little eyes in Spanish.) This one features a dual pattern of orbs and 'curtains' in lovely shades of teal and sky blues, both light and dark, which are far less common than most other colors. Even the greens are a bit bluish, and there are hints of rust as well. The orby pattern fits the shape of the stone quite well, with lighter shades toward the edges. The flip side is beautiful too, so an open back setting would be nice. The cab has a low rounded dome of 4mm, a plump designer drop shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
