Owyhee jasper cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Owyhee jasper, from Oregon. This famous member of the porcelain jasper family is one of my all time favorite jaspers, and this cab's a splendid example of the so-called old stock red that's getting tough to come by these days. This example has several diagonal flame-like streaks of dark red, with one rounded edge showing spikes of ochre. The background is light and creamy, with just the palest hint of bluish coloration. Gorgeous! The stone has a nicely rounded dome of 5+mm, a versatile designer 'flame' shape that frames the pattern to good effect, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
