Offered here is a cabochon of Deschutes jasper, from Oregon. A treasured favorite in the celebrated family of porcelain jaspers, classic old material like this has become quite collectible and pricey these days, when one can find any to buy. This example has a wildly exotic pattern of richly contrasting earth tones of yellows, tans and reddish browns, with a great display of spidery dendrites adding some foliage. The earthy colors look terrific in a setting of silver, though this jasper is certainly worthy of gold; the choice is yours! The cab has a low but nicely rounded dome, a fat designer teardrop shape, and a great glassy polish both front and back.
