Pietersite cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of top notch African pietersite. This example is truly a beauty, with swirling silky chatoyance that dances with the light. It's quite colorful, showing some velvety reddish orange, bright golden yellow, and both light and dark blues; please be sure to click the pics to enlarge them to full size to view the extaordinary details. I feel fortunate in the extreme that I still have a source for exceptional old stock pietersite like this, because there just doesn't seem to be any high calibre material being actively mined and exported from Africa. I have to wonder if there is any left to harvest. This stone has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, a designer 'lozenge' shape, and a fine glassy polish both front and back. And considering how the cost of fine pietersite has sky-rocketed in recent years, my per carat price of less than $2 for a stone of this generous size and quality is a genuine bargain!
