charoite cab ~
Offered here is a long ovoid cabochon of charoite, from Russia, purchased by my cousin directly from the importer. Charoite is a rare purple gem material found only at a single source, along the Charo River, located in a very remote area of East Central Siberia. This cab features a lovely crushed velvet sort of pattern with areas of excellent pearly chatoyance. This example has been backed with a thin layer of black jade, for added strength. The stone has a low rounded dome, and a super glossy polish both front and back.
