astrophyllite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of astrophyllite, from Russia. The rare titanium mineral in this stone takes the form of star-like needles in brownish gold. In certain light, many of the blades reflect bright glints of gold, though the camera's eye did a poor job of capturing that quality. This example has a great display of flashy needles, and came to me in this finished form in a trade with a Russian aquaintance. The stone has a rounded dome of 7mm, triangular pillow shape, and a glossy polish both front and back.
