Sugilite cab ~
Offered here is an cabochon of sugilite, from the Wessels mine near Kuramen, South Africa. This classic manganese-based beauty has outstanding fushia coloration, wonderfully vibrant and eye catching. Happily, there are no cracks, pits or other imperfections that I can find, and it's much prettier than these photos illustrate. The cost for decent rough, when one can even find any to buy, has soared to astronimical heights in recent years, and although this one is only semi-translucent, it is certainly in the top 10 percent, quality-wise. One thing I like about sugilite, other than the gorgeous color, is that it looks equally terrific in either silver or gold. And this one will definitely do you proud! The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a fat designer 'almond' shape, and an excellent polish both front and back.
