Fossil coral cab ~
Offered here is an extraordinary cabochon of ancient fossilized coral, from Indonesia. This fascinating material is some of the finest I've ever seen, especially well silicated, with striking patterns, plenty of contrast, and strong coloration. It is composed of the highly silicated fossil remains of colonial sea coral, many millions of years old! This particular stone has an extra showy display of ornate yellowish-orange 'flowers' that remind me of orange slices floating in a punchbowl. This coral took a fabulous shine, and there are no pits that I can find; the white dots in the light areas are tiny beads clinging to the sides of the agate pools. The cab has a high rounded dome of 6mm, a bold designer shape, and a smooth glassy polish both front and back.
