Description
~ Royal Sahara jasper cab ~

Offered here is a remarkable cabochon of the new Royal Sahara jasper, recently found in the North African Sahara desert. This amazing porcelain material has so much going for it, it's hard to know where to begin to describe it... It's a reminiscent of the old Deschutes and Biggs jaspers, often with even wilder, more exotic patterns. This example has branching ribbons of rich browns against a background of ochres and creamy tans, with just a hint of olive green and slate blue-gray shades at one side. Viewed with a bit of imagination, it's rather scenic, with dark peppery dendritic foliage. Royal Sahara jasper is an INSTANT CLASSIC; whether you're a collector or a jewelry designer, try it and you'll see, this stuff has a magical quality. This stone has a high rounded dome of 6mm, and a designer 'diamond' shape that frames the pattern beautifully. Like all the more familiar porcelain jaspers, RSJ is very hard, so I was able to polish both front and back to a brilliantly glassy mirror shine.

Size: 46x35mm
Weight: approximately 58 carats
