Botswana agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Botswana agate, from Africa. A long time favorite, this classic agate seems to be rapidly vanishing from the market, and at the same time, more and more collectors are coming to recognize its true value. Renowned for its breathtaking figure, and this example nicely demonstrates why. It has a multitude of fancy fortification bandings (including some areas with parallax), in dramatically contrasting shades. There's a bit of rose at the tip, while it's more tan in color at the rounded end, and a richer brownish hue in the center. The bands strongly resemble woodgrain, don't they? The entire stone is wonderfully translucent, especially the wide root beer brown bands, and oddly enough, the whitish bands show a mottling of ghostly orbs. It's a beauty, for sure, one that will look grand in even the simplest of settings. It has a high rounded dome of 6mm, a gracefully curved designer 'paisley' shape, and it is polished to a glassy brilliance both front and back.
