Description
~ Royal Sahara jasper cab ~

Offered here is a fantastic cabochon cut from Royal Sahara jasper, discovered a couple years ago in the Sahara desert of North Africa by George Sechler. This scenic example looks very much like a watercolor painting, with artistic ribbons of rich brown shades against ochres and creamy tans, with curling ropes of blue-gray and an unusual olive green hue. It doesn't tax the imagination to see a snapshot of another world within the stone, or perhaps you might find a resemblance to a mountain scene closer to home. heh Royal Sahara jasper is an instant classic, with patterns a lot like the grand old Biggs and Deschutes jaspers, and often even wilder and more exotic. Try it in your next creation, and I'm sure you'll agree, this stuff is MAGICAL. This stone has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, and a fat designer 'teardrop' shape that frames the remarkable pattern wonderfully. Like all the more familiar porcelain jaspers, it is very hard, and took a gleaming polish both front and back.

Size: 40x31mm
Weight: approximately 46 carats
