Fossil coral cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of colorful fossilized coral, from Indonesia. Material this well patterned is something you don't
see too often, with such nice contrast, and I must say I like it alot. Even without enlarging the pics, one can clearly see
the stone's unmistakeable one-of-a-kind pattern of flower-like starbursts, hence the name 'flowers of the sea', as it is
sometimes called. But please do enlarge the pics to see the intricate details within. The cellular structure somehow reminds
me of fossilized dinosaur bone, but the stone is actually composed of the highly silicated fossil remains of colonial sea
coral, many millions of years old! This cab has a nicely rounded dome of 6mm, a designer 'crescent' shape, and a slick
glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 43x14mm
Weight: approximately 28 carats
