Butterfly wing jasper cab ~
Offered here is an attractive cabochon of butterfly wing jasper, from Mexico. This long time favorite brecciated jasper (actually a rhyolite) is a much sought after classic, and a favorite in my studio. (For the record, it is NOT the same thing as the newer fantasy jasper found in the vicinity, though there are some similarities. Rummage around in my 'sold' gallery, where you'll surely discern the difference.) This stone is a delightful example of grand old material, full of colorfully varied figure, including an intriguing patch of dark smoky agate. The agate is nearly black but quite translucent. Any odd lines are either totally and naturally healed or simply part of the pattern, so you just can't go wrong with this beauty; it definitely won't disappoint! The cab has a low rounded dome of nearly 5mm, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
