Bruneau jasper cab ~
Offered here is an artistic cabochon of Bruneau Canyon jasper, from Idaho. Normally I prefer this jasper with the classic pattern of orbs it so often has, but I had one piece with a few stripes, and beautifully strong, saturated colors. The result was this stone, and I think it's a beauty! The central stripe has two shades of pastel orange, then there's dark orange on one side with a creamy chiffon shade on the other. The contrasting combination is very striking, to say the least. There's just a touch of translucency present too, typical of the best of this fine porcelain material. Bruneau jasper takes an outstanding polish, and when it's boldly marked like this cab is, it is prized by collectors and designers alike. Sadly, next to nothing is being dug down there in the canyon's depths, so this awesome jasper's become alarmingly scarce and spendy today. The stone has a well rounded dome of 5mm, a designer 'leaf' shape, perfectly polished both front and back.
